Start with the correct reference
Use the tracking reference supplied for your shipment and check that you are looking at the right journey. This matters if you have several bookings or are arranging a return trip. Keep the booking reference alongside the tracking number so support can identify both the order and the carrier record.
Use BagBird's tracking page or the carrier link supplied with the booking. Keep a note of when you checked and the latest event shown. Repeatedly refreshing a summary gives you less useful information than reading the event details and knowing whether the luggage has actually been handed over.
A label and a collection are different events
Label created indicates that a label has been prepared before handover. It does not, by itself, establish that the courier has collected the item. We have your package indicates receipt at a courier facility or through a pickup.
If you have handed over the luggage but the displayed status still needs clarification, retain the collection details. Note the date, the person who handed it over and the number of pieces. Share those facts with support rather than making a second booking for the same luggage.
Read movement updates in context
On the way can describe a package travelling or being at a courier facility. Out for delivery means it has been scanned onto a vehicle for delivery that day. Read the accompanying estimate and arrange for the receiving contact to be available.
These updates help you plan, but they do not replace the delivery conditions or turn an estimate into a guarantee. If the receiving address is a hotel or residence desk, tell that team what to expect and make sure it can reach you. Keep the piece count handy.
Look for detail when the plan changes
Delivery exception indicates an unexpected event delaying delivery, while Delivery updated indicates a change to the date or address. The history can contain more information than the headline. A status alone is not proof that the luggage has been lost or that a specific document is missing.
If you receive a request for information, check it against the shipment details and contact support if anything is unclear. Do not send sensitive documents to an unfamiliar contact merely because a message mentions a delay. Keep copies of information already submitted so you can explain what is complete.
Give support a useful record
Before contacting support, gather the booking and tracking references, the latest event, the last physical handover you know about and the recipient's availability. Describe the specific mismatch: no confirmed collection, a date change, one piece missing or a delivery the recipient cannot locate.
After a delivered update, confirm receipt with the actual receiving person. Check the luggage and keep any relevant packaging while investigating a problem. For several pieces, reconcile each arrival with your inventory. Clear records make it easier to ask a precise question and avoid repeating steps that have already been completed.
