Prohibited & restricted items

Check your bag against this list before the courier arrives. When in doubt, leave it out - or ask us first.

Never allowed

These items cannot travel in any BagBird shipment, in any quantity, to any destination.

  • Loose lithium batteries & power banks

Including spare laptop or camera batteries not installed in a device.

  • Aerosols

Deodorant sprays, hairspray, spray paint and any pressurised can.

  • Flammable liquids & gases

Fuel, lighter fluid, camping gas, paint thinners, nail polish remover.

  • Weapons & ammunition

Firearms, ammunition, knives intended as weapons, pepper spray.

  • Illegal drugs & narcotics

Including substances legal at origin but illegal at the destination.

  • Cash, jewellery & high-value valuables

Currency, precious metals and stones, watches - these can't be covered.

  • Perishable food

Fresh, chilled or frozen food of any kind.

  • Liquids over 100ml

Per courier rules for checked items - decant or leave them behind.

Restricted - check first

These items may be allowed with conditions. Check the rules for your destination during booking, or email us before you pack.

  • Medication

Allowed with a copy of the prescription in the bag; check destination import rules for controlled medicines.

  • Electronics with installed batteries

Laptops, cameras and phones with the battery installed are allowed, but you must declare them in the contents.

  • Alcohol

Destination-dependent: some countries prohibit it entirely, others limit quantity and require duty to be paid.

  • Wooden items to Australia & New Zealand

Strict biosecurity rules apply - untreated wood, wicker and some sports equipment may be quarantined or destroyed.

Carried, but not covered

You can pack these, but they are excluded from full-value protection and from the carrier's basic liability: if they are lost or damaged in transit there is no compensation. Send them at your own risk, packed with generous cushioning, or find another way to move them.

Fragile and breakable

  • Glass, crystal, china, ceramics, porcelain and pottery
  • Mirrors, picture frames, framed photos, paintings and canvas prints
  • Lamps, lighting, bulbs and chandeliers
  • Tiles, marble, stone and concrete
  • Bottles and anything liquid-filled

Electronics and optics

  • Laptops, computers, tablets and phones
  • Cameras, lenses, telescopes, microscopes and spectacles
  • Screens, monitors and televisions
  • Printers, scanners and projectors
  • Household appliances

Antiques, art and collectables

  • Antiques, artwork, sculptures, figurines and ornaments
  • Clocks, pewter and other collectables
  • Documents, tickets, SIM cards and vouchers

Everything else on this list

  • Musical instruments
  • Furniture and other assembled goods
  • Surfboards, fishing rods and other long or oversized sports gear
  • Food, confectionery and hampers
  • Items packed without adequate cushioning, and cosmetic damage to the bag or box itself

Everyday luggage contents (clothing, shoes, books, toiletries in sealed containers under 100 ml, bedding, toys) are covered as normal. Declare the value of each bag honestly at booking: claims are settled against the declared value, up to the cover you chose.

Prohibited items found at collection or within the carrier network will be refused or returned at the customer's cost, and shipping them may void any protection on the shipment. If you're unsure about a specific item, contact us before booking.
