Separate the container from its protection
Ask two questions: what will hold the contents, and what will protect that container during shipping? The answer can be a suitcase inside a shipping box. Allow space for cushioning around the case to protect it inside the carton. A hard shell alone does not make every object inside resistant to impact.
Check the case you already own before committing to it. Worn corners, a strained zip or a loose wheel are reasons to reconsider. Think about whether the case has sentimental value: BagBird's protection excludes cosmetic damage to the luggage or outer packaging itself.
When a box fits the job
A box can work well when you do not need another suitcase at the destination, or when belongings can be arranged more efficiently in a rectangular space. Choose a sturdy shipping carton appropriate to the contents. A thin presentation box is not the same thing as transport packaging.
Leave room for cushioning and seal the top and bottom seams securely. Check reused cartons for damage and remove old labels. If the packed box flexes heavily or cannot close without pressure, choose different packaging or redistribute the contents before taking measurements.
When keeping the suitcase is useful
Using a suitcase may make sense if you will need it for later travel or storage. Pack its compartments in a way you can describe on the contents list, tuck away loose straps and avoid loading it so tightly that opening it becomes difficult. BagBird's terms require luggage to be left unlocked.
Remember to plan the outer protection as part of the shipment. If you place the case inside a carton, measure and weigh the complete arrangement. A quote based only on the bare suitcase will not describe the larger item the courier collects.
Compare finished options without under-packing
Try a practical layout before buying a large quantity of packaging. Put the contents together, allow space for protection and consider how you will move the finished item from your room to the collection point. A package can be within the carrier's limit yet awkward for you or your recipient to handle.
Do not remove necessary cushioning just to make a box smaller. Equally, avoid choosing a much larger carton simply because it is available. Compare realistic packed measurements if cost is part of your decision, and remember that the courier also considers the space the item occupies.
Check the contents and the unpacking plan
Packaging does not change whether an item is accepted or covered. Review BagBird's prohibited and no-compensation lists, especially for electronics, breakable items and valuables. A carefully padded prohibited item still cannot travel in the shipment.
Finally, consider arrival. Confirm where the recipient can place the packages and keep the contents list accessible. Photograph each finished piece and its label before collection. Once delivered, check the contents before disposing of the packaging so that any problem can be described with the original evidence still available.
